In our homes and professional places, we deal with computers every day. Computers have become integral part of every business process today. Therefore it is necessary that we keep them in good shape. Enough is spoken about computer maintenance, repairs, day to day maintenance tasks, viruses, malwares, ransomware, data security, protecting against cybercrimes and related stuff. However, very less is spoken on how computers can pose health hazards. We handle them all the time and they accumulate a lot of dust, micro-organisms and lot of unwanted stuff. This can pose a threat to computer’s working as well as the health of the people working on them. Here are the ways to clean the different parts of computers so that they are maintained in a hygienic manner.
The surprising fact
Especially the keyboard and mouse are very frequently used by the company personnel. Therefore, there are chances that these components are covered with harmful virus like E-coli and Staph. James Francis, a renowned microbiologist conducted a study involving the computers from several firms. He concluded that the keyboard and the mouse are the worst infected components that have a lot of microbes. When the study collected microbes from keyboards, toilet doors and toilet seats, they found some keyboards carried potential health hazards and one of them had germs that were five times greater than in one of the toilet seats. Therefore, never overlook the importance of cleaning the computer parts from time to time using the appropriate methods discussed below.
When the computer is shut up, turn over the keyboard and shake it well on a trash can. Use rubbing alcohol, cotton swabs or compressed air to clean the spaces in between the keys. Dip a cloth in rubbing alcohol and use it to clean the top of the keys. At the end, use a dry cloth to polish the keys gently.
Swipe microfiber cleaning cloth in dry condition on the monitor in a gentle way for cleaning it. Do not use hard windows cleaner on the computer monitor. If it is so dirty, you can use a solution of mild soap and water.
Cleaning optical mouse
For cleaning the underside of the mouse, dip a cotton swab in rubbing alcohol and gently clean the four feet to free them from dirt and grime. Clean the center eye of the mouse using a dry cotton swab. Do it gently in a way not shattering it. Moisten a soft paper towel with warm water to gently rub the bottom of the mouse. The mouse pad can be cleaned by rubbing with clean wet cloth and some shampoo. Use hot water to rinse the mouse pad to remove all the shampoo immediately. Hang it on a clothes line to dry. Do not use it until it is completely dry.
Contract computer service professionals
While the outside of the computers can be cleaned by you as discussed above, computers will always need some service, maintenance tasks and updates of the software installed by accomplished computer service professionals.
