Steps to Safe Guard Your Personal Data on Your Internet Enabled Devices

Posted by Orion Network Solutions on May 29th, 2017

Smartphones and tablets have changed the way we work and conduct business. In fact, they enabled a lot of businesses to be flexible and capable of functioning almost everywhere. If your business has recently implemented a BYOD (bring your own device) policy, you will want to ensure that every internet enabled device used by your employees is safe and secure. A seasoned and certified IT consultant should be able to help you get started in safeguarding personal data on internet enabled devices. Apart from that, consider the following steps to ensure that all devices at work are safe and secure at all times:

•Avoid giving out too much information on social media profiles – Over-sharing on social media should be avoided as it lets malicious people to get clues for answers to security questions and passwords.

•Never store passwords and other personal data in devices – While it makes sense to take note of passwords to your accounts, it is not recommended to store them in your smartphones or tablets. Likewise, avoid saving your social security number and other crucial information in your internet enabled devices.

•Use strong passwords or pin codes – Prevent anyone from easily accessing your computer and other internet enabled devices by setting a strong password or a pin code. Make sure your password or pin code is hard to guess, and make sure each is different with every device. Consider using a password vault that can help you generate and remember unique and strong passwords.

•Download apps and software that can detect and remove malware – They say prevention is better than the cure, so start by having a reliable and easy to use anti-malware app in your internet enabled devices rather than waiting for them to get attacked or hacked and have your personal data stolen.

•Never let anyone borrow your devices – The best thing to do is not trust anyone, not even your children or your spouse. Keep your internet enabled devices to yourself and never let anyone else use them, especially if you use them for business or for work. That way, you can reduce the chances of having your personal data accessed or stolen.
