Reef House Hotel Roatan Honduras

The Reef House offers the best resort experience ever.

Having said that it would be fair to say, I?m not a fan of the over hyped, luxury hotels which are a world away from reality, where guests are cocooned , and could be anywhere in the world. So don?t come to The Reef House Resort Roatan if you are looking for a luxury hotel with night life!!

If you want night-life, crowds & noise, then stay down at the West End of Roatan.

The Reef House is the real thing, a place for diving, and total shoeless relaxation, but with great service and food.

Reef House is located in one of the last traditional water-front villages on Roatan, and is only accessible by boat.

On your way, you'll pass through the village of Oak Ridge, a vibrant fishing community of friendly locals, whose homes are built on stilts over the water.

Located on the east end & southern side of Roatan, Reef House is constantly washed in cooling trade winds (which conveniently blow the sand flies to the western & more built-up end of the island), and has one of the best diving walls in the Caribbean 100 feet from the water-front bar.

Certainly one of the highlights of staying at Reef House is the tidal salt water pool, which hosts anywhere from 15-20 hawksbill and green turtles, which are part of an on-going study to discover their habits & range.

You can snorkel with the turtles, and the host of other sea life residing in the pool (including conch, barracuda, octopus, & lots of juvenile fish) any time you desire

The resort is very comfortable if rustic, rooms were clean with window A/C units, ceiling fans & a shady verandah perfect for reading a book on a hot afternoon, and hot water in the private baths.

The food is incredibly good and plentiful. Meals are very sociable, and all take around the table together.

We had King Crab, Lobster, Chicken, steaks on the grill, Salads, and lovely desserts with all types of juices and teas. This is not to forget how good the breakfasts were as well.

The bar is the real centre of the resort, where most of the guests congregated in the evening

The hosts were outstanding. If felt like you were part of the family

The diving was outstanding. The Dive Master David (pronounced Dabeed) was fantastic as was his side kick the boat Captain Choco.

The rental equipment was in great shape well taken care of. However if diving is not your thing, the snorkelers were equally happy, as they frequently saw as much or more than the divers. They also had the option of snorkelling in front of the resort or tagging along on the dive boat.

To summarise, if you want to experience life in a traditional Roatan village, in a clean & comfortable resort, surrounded by natural beauty, friendly staff & guests who share your passion for diving and snorkelling & the beauty of the reef, then Reef House Resort is for you. They offer an incredible experience with hosts who truly care about the island of Roatan, their guests, and the reef.

Reef House is one of those small & comfortable places you keep hoping to find.

If you are looking to dance all night and have breakfast in bed, go somewhere else. If you want to relax, dive, snorkel, swim, read, swap experiences, eat well, and repeat it all the next day, the Reef House is for you.
