People do not see how hard their doors of garage work. If you use the door when going and returning from work, it means that the garage doors are being opened and closed, like 500 times in a year.  When the spring of the garage door breaks, you are really stuck. The garage door will not open or close. A great misconception people have is that the Collinsville garage door openers are responsible for the opening and closing of the garage door. This is half way true, though the heavy lifting is done by the garage door springs. The garage door springs are held very tightly which means they are under high amounts of tension.

1.   Knowing the Garage Door Spring Type You Have

a.   Torsion Springs

When you have a garage door that weighs 400 – 900 lbs, you most likely have the torsion spring. The springs are situated on the wall on top of your garage door.

b.   Extension Springs

These are commonly found in 9 x 7 garage doors. If your door is less than 9 x 7, then you will have only one Belleville garage door springs. It will be found on  a rod which runs across the garage door top.

2.   How to Know the Bad Garage Door Spring

The obvious signals that a garage door spring is bad, is when the door is not opening or closing. If that is the case, stop using the door opener to hold the spring. It will cause more damage to the garage door opener.

a.   Characteristics of a Worn Out Garage Door Spring

•   When opening Monroe, IL garage doors it stops.
The garage door has a crooked appearance.
•   Through looking at the door spring, you can tell it is worn out or there is a separation in the door spring.
•   The garage door springs seem to be elongated or stretched – loss of tension.
•   If you have hit your garage door of late, as it is a common cause of bad door springs.

When it is time to replace the spring, ensure you obtain the door springs which are designed to hold the weight of the garage door. This is paramount for the smooth operation of a garage door and to ensure that you do not damage your garage door opener.

Another tip is to replace both springs at one when you have two extension door springs that need replacement. If not, you will have one spring holding larger tension than the other, which causes future door problems.
