Posted by Lucy Cook on June 19th, 2017

Well, let me tell you that apart from planning and scheduling your emails and crafting them to fret over subject lines, there's much more going on within a campaign that can make you able to set the right foot.

An email campaign may seem simpler but hides some major do's and don'ts which need to be followed to create a remarkable progress.

Here I present a few fundamental principles for managing a creative, engaging and profitable email marketing campaign.

PART 1: DO’s

Do Track Metrics and Conduct A/B Testing:

While running a campaign, one need to track its progress in a timely fashion. Better to get a professional and affordable email marketing management service, if you don’t know how to do this. By pondering over the analytics of your previous emails, you can plan to bring improvisation in your future emails. A/B testing is utilized to analyze rates including bounce rates, open rates, click-through rates, and unsubscribe rates along with inbox placement rates.  Moreover, when carrying out A/B testing, you need to monitor subject line growth, image, and design placement. These are some major areas which need to get monitored to make sure you are running a successful campaign.

Do Create a Strategy

To make your business function well you must create a strategy, likewise, when working on email marketing, you should create a plan. I would not recommend you to take it on blindly. If you set a particular goal, it will you track your progress. In case, if you do not receive your desired outcomes you can adjust the strategy, at any time you want.

Let it be a kick starter. Sit, relax and begin!

Do Add Irresistible Subject Line

A subject line- being a headline of your email, needs to be created adding relevant keywords which act as an instant attention grabber. It should be interactively interesting so that a reader gets attracted to read it. Incorporate catchy and unique subject line and boost its success. Choose wisely!

Do Segment Your Lists:

“Segment your emails strategically. For each one of your marketing campaigns, the key is to create messages that support your unique business and marketing objectives,”- Krista Bunskoek

If you wish to read on tennis shoes and you receive emails on baby clothes, would you even bother to give it a read?

Hopefully not, similarly when a receiver gets an email irrelevant to his subject he doesn't even click it open.

In today's world mass emails are wiping off from the globe. You need to segment your list and send relevant content to the customers. Practice sending the right piece of work to the right person and see the difference.

Do Add Email a Distinctive Feature

Design your emails in a way that it becomes eye-catching and pleasing. Add clean, sophisticated banner, having an interactive header or an opening line. If you wish to incorporate pictures, then add some relevancy and classiness. It should depict professionalism. The first part of your email should instantly give an overview of your email.

Part 2: Don’ts

DON’T Flood with Sales Pitch

Don't clog up the inboxes with sales pitch oriented emails. Your content should give customers interesting news, updates or links to newsletters or latest blogs. Nobody wants to fill their inbox with mere advertising emails. So, let it enrich them with engaging content peppered with the sales pitch.

DON’T Include Hateful Content

I have seen many email campaigns falling flat due to including hateful or obsessive literature. Do not be so unprofessional. Remember you are working to enhance your brand's identity. Hence, use such terms and introduce such ideas that motivate readers toward a good cause. Refrain from adding hateful words or slang language tones.

Don’t Play With Too Many Fonts

Email templates should be user-friendly. It should get designed including 2 to a maximum of 3 different font style. Do not make a cluster of colors, pictures, guiding lines, logos, layouts and font styles. Using an excessive collection of these elements will confuse a reader. Make it look interesting and appealing.

Don't Spam

Email spam is based on three fundamental elements including concealed or fake sender identity, mass mailing, or those emails which are not requested by the recipients.

The United States law for spam emails (CAN-SPAN ACT) allows users to block the unwanted spam emails. Hence, is better not to indulge in such acts which are not only unprofessional but are illegal too.

Wrapping Up

Though I have mentioned most important instructions above, that’s not all. There is still an area left to be discovered. Steps like setting up an automation in your mailing system will keep you with the pace and will avoid any delays. Likewise never forget to lose track of your progress. Analyze and optimize regularly. Fix bugs and typos or enhance the design, if you feel the need. Keep working on and see how it will take your brand to the next level.
