Wilson: The last great anti-hero

Afdah watch movies online presents Wilson, In this we see the protagonist in full micturition watching his roommate. Never has an image defined a character better. The protagonist of this sarcastic comedy dotted with melodramatic moments is a real pity who does not mind annoying anyone with inopportune questions. Direct questions about his life to people he does not know to immediately drop some of his phrases where he reveals his particular philosophy.

Wilson is based on the first original graphic novel written by Daniel Clowes, an American cartoonist famous for having made illustrations for a number of magazines such as  The New Yorker,  Details, Esquire  or  Village Art, among others. Its protagonist is a middle-aged man, divorced and a little sociopath who lives with his dog  Pepper, in which he turns all his love. That is a lot, and a little weird, the truth. It is not the first time that Clowes' drawings are taken to the big screen: 2001 saw the magnificent adaptation of his book Ghost World, and in 2006 he did the same with Art School Confidential. Clowes's third-person contact with the Clowes universe has been directed by Craig Johnson, who has so far premiered True Adolescents and The Skeleton Twins. Johnson is a filmmaker who does not usually risk much formally in his films, inoculating to his work a certain patina of afdah tv that in the case at hand does not do any good of the whole. A character as radical and marginal as that of Wilson would have required much more extreme staging.

However, it has opted for a customs style adaptable to the environment where it thrives this authentic tocapelotas urban. Johnson is not Terry Zwigoff, who was in charge of directing the other titles mentioned above, and that shows in the tired rhythm and in the adocenamiento of images that do not speak at any moment by itself.

Anyway, the script is signed by the same author of the graphic novel, who we suppose will have allowed the slightest interference on the part of the management when conditioning the narration to the corresponding script. So in that aspect the film is very enjoyable, and the gags (especially some visuals and other recurring ones) work like a real Swiss watch, like the game of replica-counter-dialogues between the different actors, a boast in As far as rhythm and composition is concerned.

In the case of the show, it is necessary to emphasize the brutal chemistry that exists between the two protagonists, a Woody Harrelson,s who seems to have been born for the role (his physicality and verbiage are praiseworthy) and a Laura Dern who continues to demonstrate in each I work the good actress she is. It can be seen that the couple is tanned in a thousand cinematic battles, with model performances in which each allows the lucidity of their alter ego. There are still hilarious moments like the discussion that they keep next to a pond or the insane meeting in the restaurant where Pippi works as a waitress.

Wilson is revealed as a decent movie, driven by a pleasantly abrupt frankness and culminating in a legitimately uplifting ending, but leaves you with a sense that in the hands of another director with more author flair the end result could have been more optimal, Especially when it comes to highlighting the most dramatic aspects of history.
