Slab Formwork Is A Sheer Example Of Excellency

When you are building your dream house or office space, it cannot be completed without slabs. Slabs form an integral element of modern buildings. Slabs especially a concrete slab is the bedrock of a house or building, which is made using concrete. This foundation is uniform, flat and is not segmented. If you waive off a solid concrete slab, then there are chances that your house might just crumble down. So, concrete plays an integral part in balancing your structure.

Slab’s integral role is that they are constructed to provide flat surfaces for building floors, bridges, roofs and several other types of structures. Now we know that slabs play a vital role in construction, but so does a slab formwork. At times, while constructing a suspended concrete slab which has no direct support from the ground, then a slab formwork is a prerequisite to create this structure.

Formwork is basically a set of panels and falsework that creates a mould. Furthermore, the concrete is then poured into the mould for further setting. Similarly, slab formwork too comprises of formwork panels, stringers, joists, various other supports that helps in pouring the concrete when it is suspended above the ground. In such formwork, there is a combination of varied materials like – plywood, metal and sometimes plastic too! The plastic is so used because it helps in giving the ultimate strength and shape to the concrete.

In several cases, aluminium or steel sheets are also used instead of plywood. A sheath of any material is also used over the plywood that helps creating a flat surface. Furthermore, the concrete is then poured onto the flat surface. The materials that are used in slab formwork can vary depending upon the size and requirement of the project. However, construction industries preferably go for steel forms because they are extremely favourable for larger projects. Nevertheless, aluminium and plywood also play a key role in catering to small projects.

The best part of these forms is that they are reusable. However, for that you must maintain cleanliness after usage so that the panel stays straight and there are no signs of concrete building up on them. Also, plywood forms boast of a laminate base which prominently helps in protecting the wood from moisture. If not protected, it can cause damage as concrete has a characteristic of transferring moisture into the wood. So, you really need to take care of this!

Nevertheless, there are a variety of slab formwork namely – Timber beam slab formwork, Traditional slab formwork, Metal beam slab formwork, Modular slab formwork, Table or flying form systems, etc. Above all, if you have any query, feel free to get in touch with us and we shall make sure to guide you to the fullest!
