Rural Development ? Awakening of the New India

Posted by Jindal on June 23rd, 2017

Majority of Indians live in rural areas of the country. Rural development implies both social and economic upliftment of this rural populace of India. As per census of 2011, over 68% of Indian population stays in rural areas.

The Motive of the NGOs

  • Various Government and Non-Government Organizations are working  since Independence for improving the quality of life of these people.
  •  Of the various approaches for rural development, the most viable is the one that emphasizes on locally produced economic development strategies.
  •  While this approach has the key ingredient of sustenance, it also encourages participation by all.
  •  Rural development NGOS   are  devoted to eliminate the rural backwardness in India but there are still some reasons because of which it has not been uprooted.

Reasons for Rural Backwardness

  • Social inequality-  Stems from casteism, underdevelop  infrasrructure,  backward class suffering through  ages due to religious and social compulsion and predijices, in education, demographic and anthropological reasons etc.
  • Poverty- due to less investment and generation of adequate number of gainful jobs vis – a – vis population growth.
  • Population- Due to the high population problem the country faces it is difficult even for the government to reach out to every person for help.
  • Inequality of income- It’s not that India is a poor country, in fact, it is the 3rd most powerful economy in the world now, but distribution of wealth  across the society has not happened or happening, and as a result rich is getting richer, and the poor, poorer. A through social reform is required.
  • High rate of unemployment- This problem is is an offshoot of other two major problems mentioned above. A well thought off socio-economic plan over years will gradually see through these evils.

There are NGOs who work with a clear vision, and one such is Sitaram Jindal Foundation in Bangalore. It works relentlessly for rural development in India and they have been serving the cause with full dedication and motivation. SJF has worked with the sole aim of enabling and empowering people by helping them with their education and healthcare needs apart from working on rural infrastructure and ensuring that basic civic amenities are available in rural places in the country. The Foundation has been continuing its good work for decades and has adopted many villages and worked on their progress and development.
