The Study of Polytechnic in India And its Scope

Posted by rahul singh on June 29th, 2017

Polytechnic or poly is basically an institution that offers technical diploma level courses or job oriented courses, or vocational training to the students to make them fit to take on different job roles in relevant industries; the students can also become self-employed. The polytechnic courses are mostly 3  years long where the emphasis is primarily on practical training or skill-based training, rather than theoretical teaching. In India, most of such vocational courses have high-school certificate as the minimum entry-level qualification requirement. These courses are especially beneficial for those individuals who had to discontinue their schooling owing to family responsibilities or some other reason. Polytechnic courses help connect these students to the mainstream and make them employable. The aim of all the polytechnic institutions around the country is this, whether it is the  top polytechnic college in Delhi NCR  or a vocational training institution in some small town.

There is a polytechnic diploma available corresponding to the various engineering branches such as Computer Science, Electrical, Electronics and Communication, and Civil, to name a few. The validity and credibility of these courses cannot be questioned; they are equally valid as a regular B. Tech degree. However, in order to gain full advantage of a vocational diploma, you need to pursue it from a reputable educational institute because that increases your job prospects.

There are many good polytechnic institutions in India spread across the length and breadth of the country. The diplomas offered by these colleges include Diploma in Computer Science, Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical, Civil, and Aircraft Maintenance, among others. There are non-technical diplomas also available like Diploma in Interior Designing, Fashion Designing, Hotel Management, Mass Communication, and so. To name some good polytechnic colleges in India: G.B. Pant Engineering College, New Delhi; Ambedkar Polytechnic, Delhi; Government Polytechnic, Mumbai; Government Polytechnic Lucknow; Rajiv Gandhi Proudyogiki Vishwavidyalaya, Bhopal. Many established private colleges and universities in India are also offering these courses.

It is good to do proper R&D about a particular polytechnic college before taking admission there. This step is important for the choice of the best institution, which can make your future. You can focus on some points like the history of the institution (its establishment year); total faculty; courses and curriculum; infrastructure and facilities; placement record; and, ranking. It is also important to see the recognition status of the institute. It must be approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). This is an unfailing criteria for identifying the best polytechnic college in UP or any other state.

Though polytechnic is a recognized study option in India, still some bias in the industry against the non-regular candidates cannot be denied. The regular B. Tech candidates are preferred over the non-regular stream candidates. The former are generally given high-importance jobs with relatively better pays compared to the latter. Nevertheless, there are many examples of candidates from the polytechnic background who have excelled greatly in their career and left even the degree holders behind through their dedication and hard work. So, there is no reason of doubt for the vocational stream students.
