4 Things to Consider when Shopping for Motorcycle Helmets

Buying a motorcycle helmet is a very difficult task. It is the most important riding gear for the motorcycle riders. Helmets are used for safety not for fashion, so riders should select the helmet very carefully. A motorcycle helmet is composed of four main components which are as follows-

  • Inner EPS – It is a protective lining that soften the impact of the any attack on the head and helps in reducing the shock to the brain.
  • Hard outer shell – It is specially designed to disseminate and absorb the impact of any collision or accident.
  • Chin-strap – It ensures that the helmet remains on the head during the accident or any mis-happening.
  • Most inner lining- The soft fabric lining ensures that there should be proper fit and maximum comfort.

Here, I am mentioning four things to consider when shopping for motorcycle helmets-

  1. Choose proper ventilated helmet – A well ventilated helmet does not only provide comfort but also important for diluting toxic gases that build up inside the helmet. There are several holes in the inner EPS of proper ventilated helmets that push air around the head. Also, these ventilation channels help to get a direct higher volume of air around the exhaust ports.

Try to select full face helmets because they provide greater coverage to the skull. Although, they are little uncomfortable in summer season but nothing is more than skull security. So, do not prefer to have half helmet for your journey because they will only provide comfort not comfort.

  1. Check the visibility of helmet – Always consider the whiter and brighter colour of the helmet because these colours are easily visible to another rider especially during night journey. Many rider think that black helmet look cool, but they have very low visibility in light. White coloured helmets are the most preferable helmets that are specifically designed for heavily travelled areas.
  2. Consider the construction of the helmet – Your focus should be on the construction of the helmet rather that the designing of the helmet. If you take a plastic helmet then there are chances of destroying this helmet very early and it is not able to tackle the attacks or injury and burst into several pieces after a minor collision. Check the helmet by dropping it or throwing it to ensure the quality of the helmet. It should not be worn out in any case.
  3. Never purchase used helmets- used helmets are the worst helmets for purchase. You never know how old helmet are you going to use and you don’t have any idea about the internal cracks. Saving a few bucks is not a good idea to play with your life.

Always buy branded motorcycle helmets in India and if you are shopping online, then always go through the reviews of the online stores to assure the product safety and security offered by it.
