Students are not usually familiar with citation and bibliography procedures. Even if they are then it is a very long process that they always want to escape.

The formats always confuses them

Citing not just helps the student to increase the credibility of their assignment, but also indicates that they have performed extensive research to make their content seems more authentic. Get accused of plagiarism and serve penalties

Plagiarism is a criminal and teachers often fail the student if caught in plagiarism. If students credit the sources in their work, they can stay away from such crimes and get good grades.

Your reputation will be destroyed if you don’t cite

Plagiarism accusations can cause a student to be suspended for weeks or get expelled. Their academic record can reflect the ethics offence, possibly causing the student to be barred from getting good jobs.

Even if one is a student writing his/her thesis or report, an author has the right to sue a plagiarist if he caught one. Some plagiarism may also be considered a criminal offence, possibly leading to a prison sentence. 

Bibliographies are time-consuming

Instead of spending hours in making bibliographies, a university student prefers to spend that time socializing, drinking, eating or sleeping. But be aware! Procrastinating will only make you flunk your exam.
