One of the goals of aspiring M.D.s is to pass the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE), the joint program of the National Board of Medical Examiners (NBME) and the Federation of State Medical Boards (FSMB). Those who want to start their residency must prepare for the USMLE Step 2—and achieving a top score is another priority, especially for those who want to be recognised for their efforts and increase their chances of getting the job they want. Studying for the exam can be daunting if you have no idea where or how to start. Hence, refer to the following tips for achieving a top score on the USMLE Step 2 CK exam:

1. Study at the right time – Timing is one of the factors to consider when preparing for the USMLE Step 2 CK exam. Hence, make sure your preparations are perfectly timed—not too early from the exams, but not too close to the exams either. When you study at the right time, you can avoid unnecessary worrying about time constraints, and do not have to worry about forgetting the things you studied when you prepared too much in advance.

2. Increase your self-confidence – Studying should be placed out in a manner that will increase your confidence to pass the exam and get a top score. With confidence, you can minimise your worrying, and you can develop a positive mindset.

3. Sign up for a tutor – Your chances of passing and achieving a top score may become higher when an expert guides you. Consider hiring a USMLE Step 2 CK tutor that has the experience, knowledge, and capability to serve as your guide in studying and preparing properly for the exam.

4. Sign up for a course – There is USMLE Step 2 CK exam preparation classes held in a group, in case you can feel more confident with other students around you. Just make sure that the course maintains a small class (preferably a maximum of five to 6 students), so everyone gets equal attention.

5. Get the most out of the classes – Avoid chatting or socialising with your classmates during class, as this wastes time. Remember to use your time wisely.

6. Take mock exams – You can determine your learning progress and train your mind to get used to how the USMLE Step 2 CK exam goes by taking mock exams periodically.

7. Take down notes – Writing things down will make them easier to recall. If you make mistakes, analyse them and take note of the right answers so you can review them later.
