Medical Waste Disposal: Incineration Vs. Autoclaving

Management is the difficult task and depends on the category you have to manage. To manage certain things on time you must have a particular idea to make all the things proper. If you manage all the work on time then this thing is more valuable for your other projects and motivates you to lead another strong team or people. Medical wastes have different categories and to dispose of it properly without affecting depends on your management and care.

It is the report generated from reports that medical facilities produce about 2 million tons of hospital waste every year. This absurd amount of waste is broken down into four types:

  • General medical waste.
  • Hazardous medical waste.
  • Radioactive medical waste.
  • Infectious medical wastes.

While the 85% majority of these hospital wastes are general wastes and can be tossed away like trash but the other 15% need to be handled with more care because it is hazardous to dispose of this type of waste free in the environment because it can threaten to the public and environment.

Although biomedical waste management 1should be proper in order to dispose of tons of medical waste properly along with safe disposal environment. Here we discuss two methods of safe disposal of medical waste.

Incineration

Incineration is one of the most common and useful medical waste disposal methods used to treat chemical and surgical wastes, it is simply the controlled burning of medical waste in an incinerator. According to the Environmental Protection Agency, incineration method is used to treat about 90% of surgical wastes. However, some states do not use this method for their waste disposal but irrespective of this it is used widely.

Autoclaving

Another waste disposal technique is autoclaving because if the medical waste is not incinerated, then most probably the chance is that, it will be autoclaved. Basically, autoclaves are closed chambers that use both heat and pressure and sometimes steam is used to sterilize medical equipment. They destroy microorganism present on surgical wastes, like scalpels, etc. that make the tools to use it again and they also eliminate all the microorganisms that might have been present in medical waste before it’s put into a landfill. Essentially, autoclaving is the waste treatment which allows doctors to reuse tools and makes garbage safe to go into landfills.

As we discuss above that massive amount of waste being generated by the healthcare industry, so these medical facilities need to have a way to effectively and efficiently treat and dispose of medical waste with proper care related to the persons and environment.

Although these two methods named: Incineration and autoclaving are most popular medical waste disposal practices around the globe and many professionals are rely on using these procedures in order to make safe ads dispose of the waste that generates in big amount.

If proper care is not taken then these wastes not only polluted the environment but also affected the personal health. In short, we can say that proper waste disposal management is a required for the treatment of these biomedical wastes.
