Liquid DeIcer and Its Many Industrial Applications

Posted by novamen on August 2nd, 2017

Deicing products are applied to roads, runways, conveyor belts, airplanes and other equipment to prevent ice build-up or to melt existing ice and snow. Deicers can be used as an anti-icer to prevent build-up of ice and snow and as a deicer when used to melt existing ice. Deicers come in two forms, solid and liquid. Traditionally, solid deicers have been used, but liquid products have been developed that are more beneficial for a variety of reasons. Liquid deicers are easy to use and will stay where they have been applied, not scattering to adjacent ditches where vegetation and waterways could become contaminated.

Liquid deicers also work quickly, breaking apart the frozen material so it can be scraped off easily. Liquid deicers can be used on conveyor belts and airplanes as well as roads and runways. On conveyor belts, belt wetting deicer prevents the material from adhering to the surface, making unloading faster and easier. On airplanes, liquid deicer is sprayed on the plane to melt ice and prevent additional build-up, which can cause problems and prevent safe operation of the aircraft.

Specifically formulated liquid deicers are compatible with ethylene and propylene glycol, and other glycol-based fluids. They have been freeze-tested for stability and retain low viscosity even in the coldest temperatures.

The use of potassium acetate as a substitute for magnesium chloride and other salt based chemicals as a deicer for environmentally sensitive areas has become popular because it is much less corrosive on equipment and less aggressive on soil and vegetation. Liquid potassium acetate deicer can be mixed in various concentrations to achieve the freeze protection that is desired. When used in the mining industry, it will prevent coal and petroleum coke from freezing to conveyor belts, rail cars and truck boxes.

Potassium acetate has low BOD (biochemical oxygen demand), it biodegrades at low temperatures, and does not contain urea, making it more environmentally friendly than some other deicers. It is less slippery than glycol based deicers so it is safer to use on roads and walkways.

It is important to order your products from a reliable supplier, known for providing high quality products that are non-hazardous and non-toxic. The best suppliers follow strict quality control procedures during production, so you can be sure their non-corrosive deicer products will provide reliable performance even in the harshest conditions. They satisfy all standard compliance requirements, while continually refining their manufacturing methods to provide the safest products. They are committed to supplying products that are easy and safe to handle and environmentally friendly.
