WRISTBANDS-A CHANNEL FOR CHARITY

Posted by wristbandconnection on August 16th, 2017

Wristbands have been in use for around a decade, since 2004 when a professional cyclist named Lance Armstrong survived Cancer and founded the Lance Armstrong Foundation (LAF). Earlier, people used to wear ribbons to show support for a cause. Lance Armstrong produced the yellow colored wristbands which promoted fundraising, awareness, research, and development as regards Cancer patients. Through the course of the decade since the emergence of silicone wristbands, they have popularized among the masses and their use has spread like fire.

Getting motivated from the success of the LAF having raised millions of dollars, other organizations also followed the league and started producing their own wristbands to support social causes and raise funds for research and development of the same. The color of the wristbands is their most significant feature because the color of a ribbon or a wristband is a representation of a specific cause or a subject. To exemplify, green denotes kidney donation, pink is the color for breast cancer, diabetes awareness is identified with blue or red color, ocean blue and white was used for relief operation for Hurricane Katrina, blue signifies BBC’s ‘Beat bullying’ campaign, while white was chosen by the British program named ‘Make Poverty History’. Hence, the color of the band has to be chosen thoughtfully.

Many non-profit organizations are using wristbands today as a tool for making people aware of the diseases and raising funds to eradicate the same. For example, chronic diseases like colon cancer, diabetes and arthritis can be treated and avoided for which the masses are to be made aware of. Many organizations are holding awareness programs in which they make the volunteers and participants wear the wristbands of a specific color scheme to make them unique according to the cause they are supporting.

Not only humans but animals are also being supported by using wristbands. We come across many headlines of animal abuse in newspapers. You may form your own rescue group and wear themed wristbands to make your group identifiable by the onlookers. It is a unique way of contributing to society while leaving your mark and encouraging other people with your acts.
