Philippe Coutinho ‘tells JurgenKlopp he won’t play for Liverpool anymore’ – even if it costs him World Cup place

Philippe Coutinho is refusing to change his stance over a move away from Liverpool – even if it costs him his place at the World Cup.

The Brazilian wants to quit Anfield to secure a blockbuster switch to Barcelona after Liverpool rejected two bids for his services.

Last week, the Reds issued a statement insisting Coutinho would not be departing but the player has handed in a transfer request in a bid to force through the move.

Reports suggest Coutinho, who is currently sidelined with a back problem, has even told Klopp he will never play for the club again.

And now it is suggested he is so intent on leaving the club, Coutinho is even willing to risk his place in Brazil’s squad for next summer.

MundoDeportivo reports Coutinho is ready to sit in the stands for the remainder of the season if the club do not agree to his departure.

The 25-year-old is desperate to move to the Nou Camp as Ernesto Valverde looks to bring in reinforcements.

Coutinho believe he has acted professionally throughout the summer and after initially going through the necessary means of handing in a formal transfer request, he will now look to force the move.

A deal for Borussia Dortmund winger OusmaneDembele is also in the pipeline for the Catalan giants.

Discussing the injured playmaker earlier this week, Klopp said: “Nothing has changed in the last few days – not on one side or the other side.

“I work with the players I have and don’t think about players I don’t have — if they are injured or whatever. It’s the same situation for me.

“If, for example, there is an offer for a player and I say ‘No’ and the owners say, ‘Yes, let’s ask for a number on how much they want to pay.’ And I say, ‘I don’t want to hear it’. But they say ‘We want to hear it, £50 million … £50 million is cool.’ So then they sell the player — that is how a club works.”

Man Utd sign NemanjaMatic from Chelsea

Manchester United have completed the signing of NemanjaMatic from Chelsea, his new club have announced.

The midfielder, who turns 29 on August 1, joins on a three-year deal with an option to extend it by a further year after playing 121 Premier League matches for the Blues, scoring four goals.

While United declined to state how much they have paid for the midfielder, to take him to Old Trafford.

Matic made 30 starts in Antonio Conte’s first season at Stamford Bridge, with CescFabregas largely playing second fiddle to the Serbian as the club’s central midfielders vied for a spot alongside N’GoloKante.

And while Chelsea’s upcoming season will be far busier than last due to having qualified for the Champions League, the arrival of TiemoueBakayoko puts Matic’s long-term future at the club in doubt.

For Manchester United’s part, Jose Mourinho will be reunited with a player whom he requested during his previous spell at Chelsea, and will look to Matic to provide depth in a squad that he feels is still not complete.

Mourinho told United’s official website: “Nemanja is a Manchester United player and a Jose Mourinho player. He represents everything we want in a footballer; loyalty, consistency, ambition, team player.

“I would like to thank him for his desire to join us because without that, it would be impossible to have him here. I am sure our players and supporters will love him. A big welcome to our new number 31.”

Matic added: “I am delighted to have joined Manchester United. To work with Jose Mourinho once again was an opportunity I couldn’t turn down.

“I have enjoyed my time at Chelsea and would like to thank the club and the fans for their support. I cannot wait to meet my new team-mates and to start training with them.
