Fake passports always remain a huge issue with the government. The instances of fake passport are the highest when people try to get new passports made. Due to this threat, the government always tries to come up with new technology that can ward off this threat. The new microchip technology that the government is planning to introduce from next year will make the passports go electronic. This method will make the passports at least ten times more difficult to fake. The microchip will be inserted under the cover and it will contain an individual's personal information, personalized hologram and digitized photograph. It will be a 64k chip and surveillance officers will be able to read it remotely.
A number of people though, remain skeptical about this technology. They feel that it could prove to be very dangerous and instead of making the number of cases of faked identity go down, this could well do quite the opposite. They feel that with the right kind of devices, one could easily track a person in a large gathering or scan the personal information on the passport from a distance. The government however, has dismissed all this skepticism saying that the microchip does not send out any signals, so there is no scope of people being traced with the help of these chips.
