Different Acronyms Under TESOL

The globalization of several businesses and the migration of the immigrants in the States have both resulted in boosting up the growth of the English language learners and creating the need for all the educators who have got the skills in teaching ESL Training to unique group of learners form all around the world.

Such demand from the ESL Training for English learners have created many different programmes in schools all across the county that are designed to cater the needs of its students, due to which a lot of professional acronyms have now emerged that have created a bit of a confusion amongst us all. It is quite common to find the state boards of the education and many private industries and businessesoften describing the same sort of instruction by pinning down the same acronym. To note down some of the most common and authoritative accepted definitions by all for the various different terms that are related to teaching English to the non-native speakers.

The most common of all is TESOL which stands for Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages, a term which is used to describe educating the English Learners. Within the TESOL, there is TESL which stands for Teaching English as a Second Language. This course involves teaching English to the non-native speakers of other languages and which is mostly interchanged with ESL Courses teaching/teachers. The TESL/ESL professionals may/may not work for the public or private schools, private tutoring companies, colleges/universities, companies/organisations, etc.

Then there is TEFL which stands for Teaching English as a Foreign Language, this courseinvolves teaching English in the foreign land wherein there is no English peaking base. TEFL professionals may work for some international schools, international organizations and associations, international universities, international companies, etc. It is typically seen for the plus 2 and graduate programs along with the primary and secondary endorsements for the public school settings for ESL Courses to be labelled using the connotations ESOL, ESL, TESL, or TESOL

ESOL is English to Speakers of Other Languages, the term which is usually used to describe programs that are designed for the ELLs who seek for proficiency in social as well as academic language learning.These programmes are also be referred to as English as a Second Language programs which is generally the basic grammar, literature, vocabulary and the informal terms and phrases taught in either a community college or community program or through some online program setting.
