For travel enthusiasts, going for trekking in the Himalayan ranges is the ultimate achievement. But trekking has its own challenges. Trekking isn’t everyone’s cup of tea if you think it’ll be a breeze, you are hugely mistaken. Without the right guidance, going on your first Everest base camp trek can be quite an intimidating experience for you. Precisely for this reason, it’s important that you get yourself aware of certain things which you should and shouldn’t do while going on a trek.

Do wear appropriate clothing

Needless to say, you can’t expect to go on trekking in your jeans and t-shirts. Wearing warm clothes is imperative but don’t make the mistake which other do. Many people prefer clothes which have good insulation qualities while neglecting the comfort. At the end of the day, you will be walking steep surfaces in these clothes for a considerable time which is why make sure that you are buying clothes and gear which are comfortable as well.

Do get yourself acquainted with the region

You can’t just assume that just because you went to a trek a few years ago in another part of the world, it’ll be the same experience for you the second time in another place. Each place is distinct from the rest, whether it’s through culture, lifestyle, landscape and weather. Ideally, you should start researching about the place you are going to go trekking several months in advance. Since you will be visiting the place for the first time, it’s essential that you carry a map. This way, even if you get lost, you can always navigate your way back.

Don’t cut off any contact

Yes, people usually go for trekking in Nepal to find inner peace and to be far away from the hustle and bustle of city life, but that doesn't mean that you will withdraw all contacts with your friends and family. What happens if you get stuck somewhere? Weather in the Himalayan regions is unpredictable; you never know when you'll be in the middle of a blizzard or landslides. No one's telling you to keep everyone updated about your every step, but the least you can do is keep your phone on so that in case of emergency, you can call for help.

Don’t go all alone

No matter how experienced a trekker you are, it’ll be huge mistake to go alone on a trek. Yes, the experience is nice, but with the right company, the experience can be unforgettable. If you are a group of trekkers who are going in the Himalayan region for the first time, going in a group is the best option. Time in the mountains seems slow; with no one to talk to, you will easily feel bored.

Do take a well equipped medical kit with you

Roads in the mountains are steep and unpredictable; it’s even more dangerous when you are ascending or descending a slope. You never know when you might meet with an accident. Precisely for this reason, always keep a medical kit equipped with the necessities handy.
