Aesthetic and Functional Labiaplasty

The aim of the book is to provide further knowledge and insights to surgeons on how to perform aesthetic labiaplasty. Aesthetic Labiaplasty refers to the surgical reduction of what in most times is the woman’s opinion of an 'enlarged’ labia majora. In this surgery, the skin protruding past the labia majora is eliminated reducing the visibility of the labia minora. The book Aesthetic and Functional Labiaplasty  starts with a short introduction to the anatomy and physiology of the external female genitalia and then dives into the surgical techniques that can be used to reduce the labia minora. The procedures used to reshape the labia majora are also discussed in detail. The book has a collection of high definition illustration and pictures that help the reader fully understand the surgical procedures used during aesthetic labiaplasty. In addition to surgical techniques the reader will be able to gain information on the risks and complications involved in the surgery, the aftercare required and what they should discuss with the patients prior to undertaking the surgery.

In recent times there has been a rise in the demand for enhancement of the aesthetic and functionality of the external female genitalia especially in the Western world in both the state-funded and private healthcare sectors. More and more women are looking towards surgery to solve this perceived problem. In one of the reports from the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, there was shown to be an increase of 64 percent in the number of labiaplasty surgeries performed between 2011 and 2012 and a further increase of 44 percent in 2013 and 2014. However, up to now, there has been no guide or standard in book format on how to undertake this procedure. This is worrying considering the wide adoption of vulval procedures by cosmetic plastic surgeons. Furthermore, there is no training program that can be undertaken by specialist surgeons before operating on a patient. This has led to a high number of unsuccessful surgeries which lead to the opposite of the results desired by the patients. This book by one of the leading experts in this field is a valuable tool for any gynecologist or plastic surgeons who are interested in learning.
