Regular people spent most of their time in two places: home and work. The possibility of being able to charge your car at your workplace is something really attractive.

When you implement a workplace charger, you will become a cutting edge enterprise that adopts new technologies. You will also help your workforce to charge their EV, making the work environment more comfortable and attractive for them.

Do you need a workplace charger?

The first thing you need to do is to properly assess if you need one in the first place. You need to verify how much access to workplace charging is needed by seeing how many workers actually own an EV.

Installing Workplace Charging

If you discover that you actually need it, the next step is to install workplace charging devices.

These devices deliver electric "fuel" from an electricity source. By a source, we mean the city electric grid or supplemental panels to transform solar energy into electricity. Up to this day, these stations are divided into different categories called Level 1, Level 2 and DC Fast Charging.

Workplace Chargers types.

Workplace charging can be achieved through different types of devices that are divided into different types.

Level 1 stations, these stations are cheaper than its Level 2 counterparts. Because of this, they are slower to charge and they usually can only charge one vehicle during the work time.

Level 2 includes the most common devices found in workplaces. Due to their nature than can charge a car faster allowing more charges per day. Since these types of station can charge faster, policies must be created to ensure an optimal use of the resource.

DC fast charging are the fastest charging devices, making possible to fully charge an EV in a short amount of time. However, it must be noted that these are the most expensive units to install.

Workplace Charging Pricing and Policies.

When installing charging stations, an employer needs to develop rules that enforce the good use of the charging equipment. Especially when you are using Level 2 or DC charging stations. There must be clear policies on how to proceed when there are more EVs than charging stations available.

It is important to know, how far is the employee traveling, along with other important factors such as battery size and charge needed.

Regarding price, this is another aspect that should be clear to all employees on how much will be the price for workplace charging. Many companies initially offer this service for free as a part of the compensation plan to their employees. However, it is really important to consider this factor once the number of EV goes up.

This might help in breaking even with all the expenses needed to properly operate the whole system.
