Sandpapers: A Quick Guide To Usage

Posted by Linda Hudson on September 26th, 2017

Sandpaper is meant to be used for use with power tools and for sanding by hand. The power sanding products remove the material quickly and efficiently. They are very good for getting rid of the blemishes and for shaping and leveling of the wood. It is an effective method of preparing the metal surfaces for painting. The sandpaper for power sanding comes in sheets, discs, and belts designed to fit specific power tools. The and-sanding products give you a lighter touch for wood-sanding ad finishing. You can have better control and even sand those areas where the power sanders are not able to reach. The manufacturer of abrasive papers makes them available in various sizes so you can cut them to your need.

Sandpaper Types

One of the ways to determine which sandpaper will work the best requires the material and their properties. Some papers make use of natural abrasives. Garnet is good for hand-sanding & it works well on raw wood. It removes the light scratches and prepares the surface for finishing. Emery works well for hand-sanding as well as power sanding metal. You can make use of the coarser grits for hand sanding and power sanding the metal.

Manmade Abrasives

It is produced by most manufacturers of abrasive papers. The aluminum oxide is a common sandpaper type which works on wood, plastic, metal and the drywall. In this, the particles break during the sanding, and they constantly expose the new and the sharp edges. Silicon carbide sandpaper removes material even more quickly than the aluminum oxide. But they don’t tend to last that long. You can use its wood, plastic, and metal and may use them for the tasks such as rough sanding, painting or just removal and sanding between coats between when finishing.
