If you are feeling a little sluggish in the afternoon, a cup of tea is all you need to energize yourself. With every sip of the warm tea, you enjoy its intricate taste and aroma which leaves you refreshed and energetic. While you can have a variety of teas to combat lazy afternoons, nothing can beat the richness of Earl Grey black tea. Its distinctive aroma with the fragrance of citrus gives power to your senses. You feel all charged up. With tea, here it means Earl Grey.

Earl grey black tea gets a mention each time tea and beverages are discussed. This aromatic classic tea scented with natural bergamot essential oil is a real delight for all tea lovers.

Earl Grey black tea has its distinctive flavour not only from bergamot, but also from its high-quality tea leaves from the first flush (first leaves from the first tea crop of the year). Some manufacturers also try using low quality black tea and mask its poor flavour with the strong aroma of bergamot in their bit to mimic the characteristic aroma of authentic. Some also practice to blend low quality with high-quality black tea. These practices affect the final taste and aroma. High-quality tea leaves from different varieties blended with bergamot gives superior results. While Earl Grey is known for its rich taste and aroma, blending poor quality black tea compromises its authenticity.

Earl Grey tea is easy to prepare. Like other preparations, you need a teapot, tea leaves, and water. Just a teaspoon of tea leaves in a cup of boiling water, steep in the water for 4 to 5 minutes (or depending on the kind of flavour you like). Remove the tea leaves to enjoy.

You can flavour it with sugar and lemon. People also enjoy milk in their Earl Grey. It is one of the most loved afternoon teas and great for bunch pairings.

The story behind this tea is as interesting as its flavour. It is believed that the prime minister of Britain, Earl Charles Grey, received it as a token of appreciation from a mandarin of China in 1830. However, there’s nothing to establish the authenticity of the story.

Whatever may be the reason behind its origin, the fact is that Earl Grey is loved all over the world. Bergamot, having anti-microbial effects, make a good remedy for winter sniffles. So, it is both therapeutic and refreshing.
