In most cases the titles of web developers and web designers are used interchangeably, but the two careers are quite different even though they have some common grounds of coverage. Though the experts have knowledge on some common expertise it is necessary that the site owner knows which services they need in order to make their choices on the experts based on their wants. Hiring one can lead to hire bills while one might lead to poor services if one has their priorities mixed up.

A web designer is mostly considered as the expert who is involved with the appearance of the site to the user.  The design factor normally encompasses the graphics and the interactions that the user of the site will encounter. The goal of the designing is to put up a site that is attractive to the user and one that will be able to function following the principles of designing the site. The developer is concerned with the programming and coding of the web pages making up the site and the interaction between the user and the coded data. In most cases the developing state concentrates on enabling the user to use the site as they would like meaning that the functionality of the site is one of the goals of development, how the site works is also part of the concerns of the developer. Developers need to have knowledge of several web development programming languages such as HTML and also have the knowledge of how to code scripts in PHP as well as work with CGI.

When choosing either the developer or designer, it is important for the owner to consider an expert that has knowledge of both to reduce the costs.
