Posted by dwspriya on May 28th, 2011

Joomla Modules are the blocks of content to the side of the main content area in a template. In most cases these are left and right modules. Depending on the template you are using they are displayed in different colors and styles, but not every template displays all the modules. To access the module manager, click on "Extensions" and "module manager." From there you can select several options like the position of the module, and other features depending on the templates are using. Templates are website designs you can customize. While some are free, others to have cost or a subscription price. However, wherever you find your template, the available module positions is not always easily seen. This is the design the issue made by the template designer, and not by the Joomla developpers. A good Joomla template developer will offer graphical instructions for module positions, but not all designers do this. If you happen to choose a template, but cannot locate the modules you need for your content, there are ways to locate the available modules. The first that you should do is enter the administrator area and click on "Content Menu." From there choose "Article Manager." Click on "New" tab and enter title, then save the article. Select the "Menu" tab down from the list of options available choose "Main Menu." Select "Article Layout" and enter a name such as; "Module, Placements." Look for the "Select Articles" option on the right bands highlight the article title you created, then click on "Select" and hit the "Save" button. Go to "Extensions Menu" and select "Module Manager." Select "New" and "Custom HTML" from the wisdom available options. Click on the "Details" located on the left side, then choose "Position" from the pop-up menu. Select the first option that appears. Make the title the same as the position and place the position name under the "Custom Output" category. Look under the "Menu Assignment" tab and choose the article you created. Ensure that the "Show Title" and "Enabled" radial dials are set to "Yes." Save your changes. Repeat the process for all positions you want to show in the "Positions" field. This creates modules for each position name within your template. When you finish creating the modules, go to the front end of the Joomla website and click on "Module Placements" to seeing all of the module positions. This will show you which modules are available to add content and which ones will not be available for content, in the website template you are using. This is because not all templates can accommodate every single module.
