Cocktail napkins

Also known as beverage napkins, they are one of the most popular choices for a wedding reception. Usually, they measure around 5×5 inches. They are used for serving drinks at the bar during cocktail or social hours, before the reception. Cocktail napkins can be placed at the bar to include it with each drink. They can also be placed on serving trays so that they can be handed to the guests with appetizers when needed. In addition, a stack can also be placed at cake table for guests to grab with slices of cake.

Luncheon napkins

These are medium-sized paper napkins normally used for brunch or luncheon wedding reception. They measure around 6 & 1/2 inches. They are typically placed at reception tables, with each plate setting at the buffet table.

Dinner napkins

It can be either paper or cloth. Paper dinner napkins are perhaps the largest napkins one uses at a party. They typically measure around 8 ½ inches square.

Numbers you should get

It is recommended to get 2-3 cocktail napkins per guest at bar space. Cocktail napkins are also good for the cake table, and the preferred number is one per guest. So, in total 3-4 cocktail napkins per guest. If you are not using cloth napkins, keep 1.5 dinner or luncheon napkins per person.

Cloth or paper napkins?

The right type depends on how formal your reception is and what is the location. Your reception venue may already include cloth dinner napkins.
