Galaxy Note 8 Sweet Redemption

Posted by Michel Jones on October 13th, 2017

After the Samsung Note 7 fiasco, the South Korean company needed something to revive its tarnished name. And the company did just that with its latest release – the Galaxy Note 8. Off the bat, the cell phone can impress reviewers and consumers alike with its superb display and excellent performance. However, Samsung still imposes to many its inconvenient finger scanner so maybe the company is still hardheaded in some areas. Although aptly named Note 8 because of its size and design aspects such as its glass, metal and curvy body, this cell phone actually also shares a lot of similarities with its cousin, the S8. Both have the same construction, screen display and resolution, and performance. Considering that the S8 is well-loved already, it seems like the Note 8 will be widely accepted as well. As long as it does not catch fire.

Wide and Rich Display, Stunning Camera Phone

The Note 8 sports a 6.3-inch super amoled HDR10 screen and boasts a Gorilla Glass 5. With the Gorilla glass the phones should be more durable which should reduce your need to know a reliable cell phone repair shop just in case you have an accident. It has dual primary cameras both with 12MP and a decent front camera with 8MP. The Note 8 is the first ever phone to have two OIS or optical image stabilization cameras which makes it a powerful camera phone. You can choose between a wide angle or a cropped portrait photo in capturing stunning images with its camera. There is also the Live Focus mode and 2x optical zoom for novice and seasoned photographers to enjoy.

Flawless S-Pen, Inconvenient Finger Scanner

One of the things that set the Note 8 apart from the S8 is the easier functionality it has with the S Pen stylus. Samsung has added a lot of software enhancements for this tool which makes it a breeze to use. Because the Note 8 has less pronounced curves at the edges of its screen, the stylus is much better to use. The S Pen glides very smoothly with the phone and it has a very low latency. Not to mention, the pen itself is light and function. Compared to the heaven given by the S Pen, Samsung’s Note 8 has one hell of a finger scanner. Users of the S8 and S8+ have complained about the inconvenient placement of the finger scanner on their phones but Samsung did not take heed and make it even more inconvenient in the Note 8. The finger scanner did not actually change for all three phones but because of the taller size of the Note 8, it made the usual annoying finger scanner be the worst one so far. Lucky for this phone, the iris scanner which Samsung has been perfecting for a while still works fine with the Samsung Note 8. So for people who cannot stand the finger scanner, they can opt to utilize the iris scanner instead. With a bit of luck, Samsung might actually reconsider its finger scanner placement in its next line of cell phones.

Large Phone but Small Battery

Because of the incident that happened with the Samsung Note 7, the company made sure that there will be slim to no chances of the Note 8 going up in flames. The cell phone is still housed in a large body but its battery size has been reduced significantly. The battery was said to have been tested numerous times by Samsung before getting the go signal. Samsung has tried to ensure that the Note 7 incident will not happen again. Fortunately, the fast charging and wireless charging function is still available for the heavy phone users. With the list of pros and very few cons of the Samsung Galaxy Note 8, people will eventually forget the fire fiasco of the cell phone’s predecessor and move on to a richer and more powerful phone.
