Paint your Kitchen Laminates

If the kitchen cabinets start looking dull, you can paint them. You can get a smooth finish by sanding. Let us have a look at some professional tips to help you do the job faster.
- Clean the laminates and prepare then to paint: Before starting to paint, first wipe all the surfaces with a cloth and suitable cleaner for laminates. Let the surfaces dry. Sand the kitchen laminate lightly to give the paint a better surface to stick to. After this is done, sweep away the dust and mask off the surfaces to do not want to paint.
- Prime the surface with a primer suitable for laminates. Use a paint brush to paint close to the walls. Once the detailed areas have been painted, paint the larger surfaces with the roller.
- Sand the primed laminate surface. Once the primer is dried properly, use a fine grit sandpaper to smooth the surface. You can sand lightly by hand to avoid stripping off the primer. Dust the surface with a brush and wipe it with a damp cloth.
- Apply a topcoat to laminate the surface. Stir the paint and pour half into your working and the other half into a paint tray. Use a paint brush to cut along the walls and edges. Then paint the larger surfaces with a roller.
If you are short of committing to a more costly replacement of your out-fashioned kitchen storage, painting the kitchen laminate, especially the cabinets, is an affordable way to turn the eyesore into eye-catching cabinetry.
Here are a few more points you should keep in mind:
- If the kitchen laminate is cracked or peeled, that damage can interfere with the bonding of the paint to the cabinet. The laminates should be in a good condition.
- It’s better to remove the pulls, knobs and other visible cabinet hardware before painting the laminates for smooth application.
- Never use any old paint and primer.
- Minimise your exposure to fumes that are released from the primer and paint. Keep a respirator in the room for increased ventilator.
