Making a visual 3d model

3d Architectural rendering is a growing industry as more and more players in the property market have bought into its use.

However creating a 3d rendering is a preserve for a few people. This is not because it is that difficult, it is just a skill that serves a particular niche of clientele.

Anyone can become a good 3d artist, then venture into design, animation and a host of other possibilities that exist for 3d artists.

Here are some of the things that go into the creation of a good architectural rendering.

Getting the correct software is important if you are doing it yourself. Some photo editing soft wares can be used but there are specialized soft wares that are meant just for design.

Stage 1

To create a good 3d rendering of a structure, the basic rules of drawing and design apply. This is because when starting to create the design, the images used or sketches must be good. These images are usually procured from computer aided design soft wares, at other times, rough sketches may be provided by the client. These initial diagrams will look real as they provide a form of foundation for the design. These images will include both the project and the surrounding area close to the project.

Stage 2

The next step is merging the pictures in such a way that they become a structure.  In effect, all the images are cut and manipulated to form a single image which looks natural. This step is very helpful in comparing the model with the reality and being able to get the first initial feel of how the project will affect the landscape. It gives a sort of feel to what the future holds. Designers usually get important ideas on colors to use and the possible ways of decorating at this point.

Stage 3

Once the pictures are merged, the next thing to create is a panoramic view. A panoramic view is a wide unobstructed view in all directions. Unlike the photomontage stage, the views of interior and exterior are merged so that one can view the image from all angles, look inside as well outside and get a feel of both the indoors and outdoors of the project.

Stage 4

After these steps the 3d structure is complete. For marketing purposes, fixtures and accessories are usually added to the model. These give clients the ability to feel what living in that house or working in that office will feel like.

The potential clients will often be treated to a virtual tour, sometimes complete with animation.

Points to note

In creating 3d renderings there are some pitfalls that should be steered clear of. Firstly the rendition is an art and thus should be treated as such. Works of art are susceptible to being overdone. This should be avoided because in marketing, image matters. Avoid putting too much detail in the model, while ensuring that you have put in all the important details.

It is important to understand the structure you are designing, its use, its features, and characteristics as well as expectations that end users will have. Creating a model that misses a single important detail will leave potential clients appalled with your project. This is definitely not the desired outcome.

Remember the objective of a 3d architectural rendering srvices is to create the closest representation of reality possible.
