Industrial Thermowell For Protection Of Temperature Measuring Instruments

Thermowell is an attachment that is used for sensing and measuring the temperature of fluids mostly in the process industries. Thermowell is like a shell in cylindrical and long shape within which the temperature sensing instrument like thermometer can be inserted. Then the thermowell is placed inside the open or closed vessels to measure the temperature of the liquid that could be viscous, abrasive or corrosive.

In absence of the thermowell, the temperature sensing instrument would be required to be inserted directly into the liquid, which cannot be permissible due to potential hazards of contamination of the fluid and damage to the instrument as well. Thus Industrial Thermowell acts as a shield between the measuring instrument and the fluid to be tested.

Thermowell Manufacturer would make different types of thermowells in terms of mounting arrangements; bore sizes and material of construction as well. Industrial thermowell would be made with brass, carbon steel, SS 304 or SS 316. Thus the material used would be excellent as it would never react with the fluid in which the thermowell would be inserted for measurements.

Apart from the material, thermowell would be available in different bore diameters from ½” to 2”. Even the height of the thermowells would be different. Thus different types of temperature measuring instruments can be easily inserted inside the thermowells. We can get thermowells with different mounting arrangements such as with flange, with welding joint arrangement and with arrangement of threading for screwing the thermowell in position.

Thermowell would protect the actual temperature measuring instrument from pressure, velocity, viscosity, abrasive and corrosive properties of the liquid in the process pipeline or vessel. Measurement of temperature at various stages in a process is a crucial requirement that is easily served through thermowells. It is possible to remove the temperature measuring instrument for service, repair and calibration keeping the thermowell in place.
