My ultimate trekking experience going to Choquequirao

Trekking to Choqueguirao proved to be one of the most fascinating and impressive experiences.Even though it was a challenging trek, definitely a strenuous one it was well worth all the physical strain.

I traveled with a guide that I had done the Salkantay trek in the past so I must say that my guide Cesar from choquequiraotrek.com contributed greatly to my very special experience taking part in this trip.

His well versed knowledge of this area and having much to give of historical background also made this journey so special.

His passion for the country's culture and heritage is a big inspiration for his work as a tour guide.

Some trekkers opted to do the journey solo without any guides or mules but I greatly advice to make this trek more enjoyable don't suffer the consequences trying to cut corners,

Julio the cook and his assistant Freddy worked so hard packing up all the equipment after we started the day walking at each camp site and they still past us so quickly getting to the next stop setting up a beautiful meal tasting better then the best restaurant.

They stepped beyond service bringing me hot water at the showers which only offered glacial cold water They even baked a cake in my honor!.

Give yourselves adequate time to get to each camp site and spend at least one full day at Choquequirao Trek exploring all the areas that are part of the ruins.

In the lower sections there is a very nice area where the water temple is.If you continue to the left it will lead you to a beautiful waterfall.

The trail will take you all the way up close so you can stand right under it.It is a very impressive experience.

The Llama terraces should also not to be forgotten. We spent the sun set at the top of the ceremonial center which was breath taking , an unforgettable view.

Bring mosquito repellent is must the sand flies and mosquitoes are ruthless and you don't feel their bites at first but later it becomes very itchy.

I was lucky as they didn't seem to want my blood but others were in deep distress. I encourage you to make this journey before the planned cable cars bring loads of tourists.

The magic of this trek was also the serenity and deep connection with the awesome nature and powerful mountains leading up to this impressive site.Well worth all the struggle getting there!
