Showered in Choices

If you have recently been invited to a baby shower, but you don’t know what to expect, don’t worry about it. It is not unusual to be a little uneasy during your first experience. Logically, everyone had to experience their first shower at some point, and so there are probably going to be other people there unsure of what to do or bring. In order to help you be a little more prepared, here are some tips on things like what baby shower gifts to bring and whether to be on the lookout for a baby registry gift.

Formal or Casual

Baby showers seldom very formal affairs, though they can vary from casual to semi-formal. This info should be provided with the invitation, but if it isn’t, don’t be afraid to ask. It just shows that you care about the event and care about attending.

Who is Going to Be There?

The normal people to expect at a shower are family of the guest of honor and close friends of theirs. Depending on the size of the event, it may extend beyond this relatively small group of people, but traditionally these parties are pretty small. One thing that is becoming more common is to invite male family members and friends. In the past, this didn’t happen often, so at a traditional shower the guests may be all women, but the rules are decided by whomever is hosting the shower, so it can depend on what they are looking for.

Gifts

What baby shower gifts to bring is also going to be a big deal. Often this is used as a time to supply the new parents with all of the newborn baby supplies that they will need. Clothes, toys, diapers etc. are pretty much always good gifts. If there is a baby registry, gift-giving wouldn’t be very hard at all, and you may know exactly what they will need and what others plan to bring.

Getting Started

This little preview of baby shower basics should be enough knowledge to let you fully enjoy the event to which you have been invited. Generally, it is the thought that matters, you cared enough to go, and cared enough to bring baby shower gifts, so even if you don’t get the exact right item, the mother-to-be will appreciate your effort. Even if you braved a  purchase that was not on the baby registry list. Once you’ve enjoyed your first baby shower, you may find that you’re actually looking forward to the next!
