Have you ever come across a man or a woman who said, “I’m really happy with my weight!” I can confidently assume that your answer is no. Well, even I haven’t met many people who are actually happy and content with their BMI or weight and neither are their doctors. And in fact, my doctor wasn’t happy with my weight and wanted me to lose a whopping 15 pounds! Yes, you read that right. Initially, I was extremely depressed because it was hard for me to stay away from my favorite pizzas or mac and cheese. But then, when it’s related to your health, you must never compromise. So, I went on a strict diet and have lost around 25 pounds.
But trust me, this “strict diet” wasn’t something that has actually made me go into severe depression or made me feel frustrated. I ate almost everything but in a limited proportion. Replace Big Plates with Smaller Ones
Well, this was not something that she wrote down on the prescription. I had simply asked her if there was any additional tip that she would want to give me, she said, “Let your plate control your portion”. She added, “Switch to smaller plates, it’ll help you reduce the amount”. Look, I’ll be honest; I thought that this is some kind of myth related to weight loss diet plan. But then, I thought of researching about it and I found that she was right!
According to an experiment conducted by Brian Wansink and Koert van Ittersum, it was discovered that a shift from 12–inch plate to a 10–inches plate resulted up to 22% decrease in calories. So, ditch the large plates and embrace the smaller ones. If you follow this method religiously with the weight loss diet plan for men and women, then you will surely lose weight.
Choose the Color of Your Plate Wisely
I know, this sounds bizarre, but this really helps you control your eating habit. When my dietician gave me this suggestion, I was taken aback! To me, this was something really stupid! But later, I researched about this as well and I found out that Wansink and van Ittersum had carried out an experiment with a plate and food color as well. And they found out that if a person ate red sauce pasta served on a red plate, they ate 30% more than what they would eat if the pasta was served on a white plate. So, after I read the research article on this I followed this suggestion, and I think this worked for me as well along with the very low calorie diet that my doctor had prescribed me.
There’s no Replacement for Exercise
Yes, this is true that our weight depends on 70% diet and 30% exercise. But, if you think that dieting is enough to lose weight, then you are mistaken. You need to exercise as well. Wondering, what kind of exercise should you do? Well, cardio workout such as jumping jack, skipping, etc will be enough to start with.
