Ginger tea although very good for health must have some side effects. Therefore, the following precautions are necessary before using it. Following are the precautions:

Pregnant women-  the use of ginger for pregnant women is debated as it is believed that it may lead to miscarriages. The use of ginger is prohibited in the final weeks of pregnancy as it may result in too much bleeding during the time of delivery. Women carrying babies are advised not to consume more than 1 gram of ginger a day.

Bleeding disorders-  ginger contains salicylates, that acts as a blood thinner. People taking medication for such bleeding problems should consult their doctor before using ginger as it may result in increase in bleeding. Moreover, patients undergoing a surgery should avoid using ginger tea about three weeks before such surgery. It has been recorded that it has increased the blood flow in case of menstruating women.

Sugar patients- ginger may release insulin in your blood which may result in low blood sugar. Patients may adjust their diabetes medications after consulting a physician.

Lowers appetite-  studies have shown that drinking ginger tea increases the feeling of satisfaction or satiety. Ginger contains a hormone called serotonin that may be responsible for this lowered appetite. Therefore, for people who suffer from obesity it may be helpful to reduce weight. But if you want to gain some weight you should resist taking ginger tea as it may suppress your appetite.

Response to other drugs- it is advisable to consult your doctor if you are under any medication. Ginger may react with some drugs. Therefore, you must avoid ginger tea while such medication, specially, in case of blood pressure, diabetes, obesity or bleeding disorder. Commonly, ginger reacts with cloves, garlic, turmeric, and other herbs. Mixing these herbs may increase bleeding.
