Scheider Electric and Egypt in talks over desalination plans

Schneider Electric, the French energy management group, is in talks with Egypt's ministry of housing, utilities and urban communities about investing in desalination and wastewater treatment projects, reports Almal News.

In August 2017, reports emerged that Egypt plans to build or upgrade 16 desalination plants across the country.

The talks with Schneider follow a visit by the company’s chairman and chief executive, Jean-Pascal Tricoire, to Egypt’s president Abdel Fattah Al Sisi in November 2017. The pair discussed potential partnerships covering smart cities, smart electricity networks, and desalination.

“We have a plan for the next five years to produce one million m3/d of seawater desalination for the coastal cities, and a clear perception of the locations of these stations. We are working to benefit from your experience in this sector for the rapid and high quality implementation of these stations,” said minister of housing, utilities, and urban communities Mustafa Madbouli.
