Wood like Laminate Floors

The laminate floors are not wood, though they appear to be. Laminate floors are entirely manufactured and can mimic the look of nearly anything, but mostly they are made to look like wood. More options are coming up now, like laminate floors that look like a ceramic tile or slate.

Laminate floors are relatively less expensive, are easy to install and hold up very well to wear. Such laminate sheets are moisture resistant.

Do you know what really a laminate floor is?

  • It has a transparent, protective wear layer that is resistant to chairs, high heels dogs and cats.
  • The decorative layer of these laminate sheets provides a high definition, detailed image. The manufactures have the technology and capability to realistically simulate everything from hardwood to marble to stone.
  • High density fibreboard core offers impact resistant, durability and stability.
  • The layer of melamine resin offers additional moisture resistance and structural stability.
  • Underlayment is required for installation. It helps in absorbing some minor imperfections in the subfloor, reducing some noise while walking in the floor.  Some underlayments offer a moisture barrier on one side, which is good for bathroom and wet area installation.

Laminate floors snap together and float above a subfloor or an existing floor. As long as the old floor is level and not carpet, the laminates can be installed on the floor in a day, provided all the required materials are available.

All the laminate floors require an underlayment. Sometimes that underlayment is a sheet of material which you have to purchase and sometimes it’s the bottom layer of the flooring material.

If the laminates are installed directly on concrete or in areas with a lot of moisture, am additional moisture barrier will be needed. Always ask before buying and make sure you are buying the right product depending on your needs.

Laminate floors are stain and fade resistant. They have extremely hard and durable surface but it is possible to scratch it. It is not possible to repair the actual scratches.

The laminate sheets on the floor do not need any special cleaners or treatment to keep the look.  It does not need to be waxed or polished. It can’t be refinished.

Laminate flooring is a very good and affordable option for long and short term flooring solution. You need to do your homework before you go to market to do buy the right product.
