Schneider Electric Donates Solar Lanterns to the Light and Hope for Puerto Rico

Posted by Schneider Electric on December 6th, 2017

Schneider Electric, the global specialist in energy management and automation, today announced that it has extended relief efforts to those affected by Hurricane Maria by donating APC by Schneider Electric Mobiya TS170 S portable LED lighting systems to the Light and Hope for Puerto Rico campaign. The solar lanterns will provide citizens with temporary lighting and power to charge mobile devices as the grid continues undergo repairs in the wake of the storm.

Light and Hope for Puerto Rico is a citizen campaign stewarded by 15-year-old Salvador Gabriel Colon who was motivated to help his home country in the wake of the devastation from Hurricane Maria. The campaign specifically aims to provide solar powered lights, mobile phone chargers and hand powered washers to those that have been left without power or basic resources.

"The after effects of Hurricane Maria have left much of Puerto Rico without access to power – with some projections that full grid restoration will take many months to achieve," said Annette Clayton, CEO and president, North America Operations, Schneider Electric. "At Schneider Electric, we believe access to energy is a fundamental human right, and Salvador's grassroots campaign is directly in line with that belief. We're pleased to support the Light and Hope campaign as the citizens of Puerto Rico continue to recover and rebuild their energy resources."
The Mobiya portable, water-resistant LED lighting systems with accompanying solar panels provide up to 48 hours of lighting with one day of solar charge and can also be used to charge mobile devices. Equipped with a universal charging cable, Mobiya lamps can also be charged by any USB port.
