How to Choose a Good Cigar?

Posted by Tarun Aarya on December 15th, 2017

It was not long ago when a man with a cigar in his mouth was held in high regard. Young men would move towards their adolescence by igniting a cigar that “just happened” to come out of his father’s humidor. For instance, 21-year old Winston Churchill ventured into Cuba. It was in Cuba, he found his love for Cigars. He was so known for his Cigar that there is Cigar that carries his name today: The Churchill Cigar.

You might be slightly overwhelmed when you will first walk into a well-stocked cigar humidor. How can you possibly tell the difference between H Upmann Cigars & an Ashton? How does it matter if this “Romeo Y Julieta” came from Montecristo and an Ashton? Here are some tips that will give you some idea of how to pick a quality cigar.

So What's In A Cigar?

Head: It is the end you put in your mouth. It’s sealed off and requires cutting; Guillotine is preferred to make sure that the cigar is not smashed, but a sharp knife serves the purpose well. Never use your teeth for the purpose.

Foot: It is the side you light.

Filler: it is the nice, consistent blend of dried and fermented tobacco.

Wrapper: It is the outside of the cigar and it varies in color from light to dark. The flavor of Cigar comes from this outer layer.

Choosing Best Cigar

Now let’s see how you choose a cigar. If you get an opportunity to go to a Cigar club go out and see what they have stocked. Probably in their humidor, you will find a lot of cigars. The humidors help maintain the right humidity. If it is too much the cigar will rot and if it is too less the cigars will dry out and lose their aroma. If you are going to smoke for the first time, it is better to not go with high-priced ones. At this point in time, you might not be able to savor the nuances of an expensive cigar. In fact, there are many cigars with high-rating that may fit your budget well and they also have the best of ratings as well.e

In The End

Chose the Cigar for the quality of its tobacco, the wrapper (e.g. H Upmann Cigars) it’s great taste and certainly not the price.
