The Magic Lantern Show
In 1600s, pictures of various animals, birds, or objects were painted on a glass and were projected by a candle onto a wall or a curtain. This led to the birth of cinema as the lantern was an early version of today’s projectors.

The Film Invention
The Era of 1890s witnessed the making of first motion pictures. The movies were only a minute long and were boring. They didn’t have any sound and featured only a single scene. Later on, theaters started hiring bands to make up for the lack of music. Live music was played during the course of the movie in order to alleviate the boredom of the spectators. The era of silent movies ended in 1927 when the ‘talkies(feature films with sound)’ came into existence.  

The First Theater’s Inauguration  
The credit for the first commercial exhibition of a projected motion picture goes to the Lumiere Brothers, Louis and Auguste. In 1895,  the world's first movie theater - the ‘Salon Indien’, at the Grand Cafe on Paris' Boulevard des Capucines was inaugurated. It featured a single 20 minute show consisting of ten back-to-back short films.
 
The Time of Pan Shot  
Earlier, cameras were used to be stationary and if somebody wanted to move it in horizontal direction, then it could only be possible if he maneuvers the camera along with the tripod. But, invention of pan shot (derived from the word Panorama) brought a major change in the filmmaking process.  
 
First 1200m Long Film
The Australian film The Story of the Kelly Gang(1906) is the first  one hour long feature film. The length of the reel of that film was 1200m long, making it the longest narrative film of the world till date.

Introduction of Music in Films
In 1927, an American film ‘The Jazz Singer’ was released. The movie had a synchronized music, lip-synchronous singing with speech in several isolated sequences. The release of this film ended the silent era of world’s film industry.

The Technicolor
In 1932, Walt Disney Pictures introduced ‘technicolor’ in film making. The Technicolor shot used a special camera having three different strips. The shot mainly consisted of cyan, magenta and yellow color. When the strips are put together, it created a great visual effect. ‘Flowers and Trees’  was the first technicolor movie of the world.

The Big Screen Cinema
In 1950s, various attempts were made in order to increase the viewing experience of the people. This led to the invention of ‘Cinerama’ in 1952, followed by Cinemascope in 1953.
 
Technological Advancement
After 1970s, technological advancements took place in movie making. Now, most of the theatres uses Digital Light Processing(DLP) technique in there projectors. The introduction of some computer software like VFX has completely transformed the conventional method of filmmaking.
