Charleston Fashion Week emerging designers include 'Project Runway' competitor

Are your fashion follicles tingling? Charleston Fashion Week is officially slated for March 13-17 next year under the traditional white tents in Marion Square, and now the 2018 emerging designers have been announced.

Among the top 12 semifinalists are former "Project Runway" competitor Kenya Freeman of Atlanta and Heather Rose Johnson, who is from right here in Charleston.

Freeman finished in fifth place before being eliminated on the 16th season of "Project Runway." She just missed the chance to show her collection at New York Fashion Week. Her opportunity to do so at Charleston Fashion Week, however, is now officially open.

The other semifinalists are Kelly Callaway of Scottsdale, Arizona, Tygerian Burke of Charlotte, Tina Gancev of Atlanta, Sharae Himes of Charlotte, Tierra Macon of Los Angeles, Kimberly Millar of Charlotte, Patresea Peppers of Atlanta, Emilie Schroeder of Brooklyn, Patrick Tai and Terrence Henderson of Charlotte and Joan Madison of Columbus, Ohio.

"We were overwhelmed by the number of talented applicants of all ages, skill sets and education," says Charleston Fashion Week fashion panel judge Pauline Nakios. "Each up-and-coming designer chosen will showcase his or her collection on the nationally recognized runway before leading fashion insiders, influencers and media."

Each Emerging Designer will compete for the top prize, which will be announced on Saturday night's fashion finale. The prize includes a package worth over ,000, including ,000 in cash, lunch with Fern Mallis in New York City, a mentorship with L2 Apparel and Lilia P. CEO Pauline Nakios, a featured designer event or show at Charleston Fashion Week 2019 and a ,000 website or search engine marketing package from F22 Internet Solutions.
