Cloud computing is the on-demand delivery and the system of any time access of computing services—servers, storage, databases, networking, software, applications, analytics and more—over the Internet (“the cloud”). AWS (Amazon Web Services), Salesforce’s CRM system, and Google Cloud Platform are the most popularly used cloud computing platforms that are being used by different organizations from small start-ups to huge MNCs, from government sectors to NGOs across the world. Cloud computing has made the process of accessing data efficient and reliable from anywhere at any time on the basis of payment.

Cloud computing greatly reduces up-front IT infrastructure and maintenance cost of an organization. It allows enterprises and organisations to promptly and effectively meet their fluctuating and rapidly changing business needs within very less time. There are 3 types of deployment models for cloud computing services: private, public or hybrid.

In a public cloud, the services and infrastructure are provided off-site over the Internet. Public cloud is greatly efficient while being in shared resources. But then this also makes them more vulnerable than private clouds. A public cloud is relevant when you are doing collaborative projects or when your standardised applications like email are used by lots of people.

In a private cloud, the services and infrastructure are maintained on a private network. Private clouds are highly secure and are in full control of the user. One usually deploys a private cloud when one deals in the business of data and applications and needs to keep them available on demand as well as very                         secure.

Hybrid clouds are a combination of public and private options with multiple providers. The organizations usually have an internally managed private cloud and also rely on a public cloud as per the requirement. One can spread his/her business in a hybrid cloud, and keep each aspect at the business in the most efficient environment possible. Just that in case of hybrid model, one needs to keep track of multiple different security platforms and ensure that all aspects of your business can communicate with each other.

There are three broad service categories of cloud computing: infrastructure as a service (IaaS), platform as a service (PaaS) and software as a service (SaaS).

SaaS uses the web to deliver applications that are managed by a third-party vendor and whose interface is accessed on the clients’ side. Majority of SaaS applications are run directly from a web browser without the requirement of any downloads or installations, though some may require plugins.

PaaS are used for applications, and other development, while providing cloud components to software. What developers gain with PaaS is a framework they can build upon to develop or customize applications. PaaS makes the development, testing, and deployment of applications quick, simple, and cost-effective. 

IaaS are self-service models for accessing, monitoring, and managing remote data center infrastructures, such as compute, storage, networking, and networking services (e.g. firewalls). Instead of having to purchase hardware outright, users can purchase IaaS based on consumption, just as you purchase electricity and pay the bill.

With cloud computing, the organisations or companies can scale up as computing needs increase and scale down again as demands decrease. This eliminates the requirement for enormous investments in local infrastructure. Salesforce online training
