Windows Server 2016 is Microsoft’s enterprise server operating system. It was developed as part of the Windows NT operating system family and concurrently developed with Windows 10. Its earliest preview version was released way back in 2014, before it was officially released on September 2016. Today, Microsoft continues to develop and expand the enterprise server operating system, making it a more robust tool for enterprise applications. Below are some of the newest and latest features of Windows 2016:

•    When it comes to computing, Windows 2016 offers highly improved virtualization features, enabling IT professionals to more efficiently design, deploy, and maintain Windows enterprise servers. On a general server level, Windows Server offers great benefits for both physical and virtual machines in the form of greater time accuracy. This is thanks to improvements made in Hyper V Time and Win 32 Time Synchronization Services.

•    Windows 2016’s Nano Server now has updated modules for creating Nano Server images. There is a clearer separation of functionality between physical host machines and guest virtual machines, along with additional support for various Windows Server editions. Improvements to the server’s recovery console have also been made, including the separation of firewall rules for inbound and outbound requests and the ability to repair WinRM configuration.

•    New features have also been added to improve Identity and Access to provide organizations with grater ability to secure their Active Directory environments, as well as to help them more conveniently and efficiently migrate to hybrid and cloud-only deployments. Some Active Directory improvements include increased support, security, and improved capabilities for certificate services, domain services, and federation services.

•    On the administrative level, the Windows 2016 server OS offers great improvements in areas such like Management and Automation, which focuses on reference and too information for IT professionals wishing to run and manage the operating system together with Windows PowerShell. New additions include the capability to locally run PowerShell.exe on the Nano Server, PowerShell debugging support, alternatives to GUI in the form of Local Users and Groups cmdlets, and added support for security logging, JEA, and transcription in Nano Server.

•    Improvements in the server operating system’s networking capabilities have also been made, including areas such as software-defined networking and TCP performance. Windows 2016 also offers added security solutions and Assurance features for more efficient deployment, design, and maintenance.
