CTScan Centers in Texas Improve Cancer Diagnosis and Treatment

Computed Tomography Scan (CT scan) is one of the most commonly used toolsin diagnosing cancer. Texas based oncologistsoften refer their patients to a CT Scan center in Texas for further investigation of a cancer diagnosis. Depending on which part of the body is being scanned, you will be required to either swallow, be injected or have a contrast material inserted via your rectum for clear scan pictures.

Below are various ways in which CT scans improve cancer diagnosis and treatment:

  • A CT scan can be done on soft tissues, the pelvis, blood vessels, lungs, brain, abdomen and bones. It can, therefore, be used to diagnosis all types of cancer.
  • A CT scan is able to tell the exact location of the tumor, size of the tumor and how far it has spread.
  • The scan shows structural details of across-section of the body under diagnosis including bones, blood vessels, organs and tissues.
  • When carrying out a CT-guided biopsy, doctors use CT scan images to guide a needle to the tumor in a bid to acquire a piece of the lesion for biopsy.
  • It is also used in cancer treatments such as radiofrequency ablation,to accurately position the treatment agent.
  • A study to determine the benefits of CT scan in medical diagnostics indicated that the scans played a huge role in making accurate diagnosis. According to the study, doctors changed more than half of their diagnosis after using CT scans. This meant that, without using CT scans, over 50 percent of the cases studiedhad been misdiagnosed.
  • The study further suggested that use of CT scans could help patients save money that would have been otherwise used to treat wrongly diagnosed diseases.

When looking for a CT scan center in Texas, go for one that adheres to radiation regulation to ensure you are not being exposed to extremely high radiations.
