A Stitch In Time Saves Powerstroke Fuel Injectors

A HEUI – hydraulic electronic unit injection, is an Injector that led to manufacturing a Powerstroke 6.0L injectors and all other required powerstroke fuel injectors. It’s a high pressure oil pump that is located at back of the engine's valley and produces equivalent to 3,770 PSI. The high pressure oil works on an intensifier piston located inside the injector, where in pressure multiplying occurs at a ratio – (7:1) thus generating actual injection pressure of over 26,000 PSI. A twin - 48-Volt, 20-Amp - open and close solenoid controls the injector’s spool valve position that ultimately determines the timing and duration of fuel injection. The fuel is received by a passage casted into each cylinder head, while the high pressure oil is being delivered into the injectors through an oil rail which is located above the injectors.

Some of the common symptoms of injector failure

It has been observed that when one of the injector fails the rest may follow the suit, therefore to save on time and labor one should replace all injectors together.

  • Hard Starting (especially - cold engine)
  • Excessive Smoke
  • Rough Running
  • Low Power
  • Stalling
  • Misfire
  • Bucking / Jerking

Reasons for failure of 6.0L Injector

Other than the design issues, the main cause of failure of a 6.0Lpowerstroke fuel injectors failure is its poor maintenance. The tolerance level of the engine is mildest in the fuel injectors. Thus, it is essential to keep the oil clean in order to maximize injector life. Once a problem is detected in injector it should not be ignored as it becomes deadly to 6.0L injectors – this extension is still okay if it is runningon a good bypass of filtration system. It’s highly recommended to use the – FS- 2500 bypass filtration system to prolong the life of an injector.

Along with keeping the oil clean, the fuel is the next major issue which can affect 6.0L injectors. The poor quality of fuel consisting of dirt and water is a disaster for 6.0L injector. Additionally, as the fuel in the injector is being used for providing cushioning action on the internal valving of the fuel injector, the low fuel pressure would severely harm injectors. Clogging of fuel filters caused due to neglect in maintenance intervals is a common reason for damaging an injector. It is recommended to service the fuel filters at interval of 15,000 mile. A failing pump causes low pressure leading to repeat injector failure. A regular check of fuel pressure after installation of new injectors is done, to maintain between 45 and 55 PSI, not allowing a drop below these specs under load. When it comes to trucks one may immediately contact fuel injector providers Orlando, no way should it be run when out of fuel as the damage to injectors may cost heavily.
