Most of us know that Muslim women wear the head scarf, commonly called as hijabs and other traditional dresses, which many people perceive as common symbols of control. However, that’s not true. Let’s take a look at the various revealing truths of Muslim dresses:

1. Muslim Women are never obligated to wear hijabs

Many Muslim women always choose to wear hijab by their choice. One of the most common reasons behind it is a tradition that is followed by most of the members of their community, their family and many others in their country.

Many wear scarves to represent their commitment to modest dressing and to support their religious reasons, too. For them, it’s just like any other dress and they wear it during specific occasions and community events. Many women who wear headscarf say they don’t wear it because they are controlled by men, but they wear it to promote their very own feminist morals.

A small minority may say they are being forced to wear the scarf. But most of the studies have shown that Muslim women always choose to wear it to show their self-control and determination.

2. It should not likely to be linked to terrorism

Right after 9/11, due to negative media reports, Muslim groups and communities, especially in many Western countries, experience racism at times. These terrorist attacks affected many hijab wearers too as wearing a veil easily demonstrates them as a Muslim. This hatred and terror made many Muslim to stop wearing the veil. However, at the very same time, many others started wearing it in order to show their commitment to towards their religion.

Hence, the Muslim Head Scarves should not be deemed as a symbol of terrorism.

3. Hijab is not something a ‘West versus Rest’ Cultural Divide

There are numerous styles, shapes and colors of Muslim Headscarf along with the different style of carrying it.  Recently, transnational Muslim fashion trade came into being, which largely focuses on Muslim women dresses. They are coming up with newer styles and trends in order to maximize veil’s sales.

4. Hijab, not to be feared of wearing

Taking an excerpt from a recent report, 60% of the victims of abuse in England are Muslim women, and around 75% of these women were wearing some or the other form of veil or head-covering scarf. But now it’s time for women to stop fearing and carry themselves and trendy attire with confidence.

Muslim women wear the hijab for various reasons. These reasons may or may not change with time. But any reason or perception that people are connecting to veil wearers should not affect them. They should realize women power and make a balance between fashion and their tradition through the trendy, elegant and stylish Muslim wears.
