6 Things You Should Know About Arranging a Funeral

Here are some useful tips to organize the funeral of your loved one during this difficult time.

Start With Reporting the Death

You need to report the death of your loved one to the authorities in order to start with the process of death certification. This is done by both the doctor, the coroner and maybe even a director in a funeral home. You will have to get several copies of the death certificate so that you can get the body disposed of, the estate settled, rounding off the bank accounts and even insurance.

Get Hold of a Company to Arrange the Funeral

Follow the procedure by contacting a funeral home known for arranging funerals in a satisfactory manner according to the whims of the grieving family. If the deceased is at a hospital or a nursing home the administration at these places will be able to take care of the process of the death certification.

Make a Final Decision about the Funeral

Decide if the deceased should be buried or cremated and what kind of memorial service you are planning to have. If the deceased has specified the details for the funeral in their last will, make sure they are met with the word. The last will would be the lawyer, or someone trustworthy. Remember to make sure that you are working with the funeral directors and make sure the deceased has not made any pre-payments so that you would not be charged twice.

The accounts and other bank deposits will be frozen once the banks are notified of the death of their client. If you have been using the money of the deceased, you will have to withdraw some money before the assets are frozen.

What Types Of Services Can You Have?

A funeral needs to be arranged before the body is cremated or even buried. And the memorial service is what you have once the body is cremated or buried. A graveside funeral service is arranged by the side of the gravesite. Figure out the location of the funeral before you go ahead with its arrangements.

Making Arrangements with the Cemetery

You will have to decide on the place of the burial if you are looking to bury the deceased and if they have not made any arrangements with the cemetery such as a plot that has been paid for previously. You will have to buy a plot in the cemetery or maybe reserve some space in a mausoleum.

If you are working with a funeral home, there is a chance that they are affiliated with a cemetery. You will be able to reserve a plot through the funeral directors. Or if the deceased is affiliated with a church or any other religious groups you can request a place of burial from these institutions.

How to Make the Funeral Arrangements

Start with deciding on what type of service you are planning to have. Also, make sure you know what pre and post services you are planning to include in the funeral. The pre-service funeral events consist of viewing the body and the visitation while the post-funeral services consist of gatherings.
