When it comes to the removal of contaminants, coatings, residues and corrosion from hard services, special techniques and methods needs to be chosen. One of the ways and means available for this purpose is vapor abrasive blasting. This technique is also referred to as wet abrasive blasting. Quite similar to what is seen in dry blasting, in vapor abrasive blasting technique, before impacting the surface the blast media is suitably moistened.

Advantages of Vapor Abrasive Blasting

There are ample benefits of this technique and the major advantage of using it is that it reduces dust to a significant extent thus operators working in a variety of environments can work with minimal cleanup costs and minimal set up costs. This way, it results in more consistent finished, a cleaner and ready to coat work with no clinging dust or embedded particles.

Soda Blasting

Another method that is extensively used in a variety of industries is soda blasting services. This method is known for its precision and speed in cleaning, smoothing or removing surface finishes. “Media” is used to blast a surface for the removal of dirt, paint or any other undesirable contaminants on the surface.

Advantages of Soda Blasting

  1. It is a very eco-friendly way of removing contaminants from a surface. This is because, in soda blasting, soda bi-carbonate is used as media and since it is a larger soda particle than what is used in food industry, it has enhanced purity.

  2. Another advantage of soda blasting technique is that it is non-toxic in nature. The major element being sodium bicarbonate, it is not at all toxic by inhalation, ingestion or dermal contact.

  3. Soda bicarbonate is soft with just 2.4 on Mohs hardness scale thus it is non-abrasive. When soda blasting technique is used, the crystals of soda explode outwards as soon as it comes in the contact of a substrate. It makes it easy to remove contaminants without damaging the surface.

  4. After soda blasting process is complete, the powdery film that is left behind inhibits “flash rust” thus there is no need to apply a coat of cover on the exposed metal. This way, this problem can also be eliminated completely.

  5. No heat is generated in soda blasting on impact and as such it does not warp or distort the object under treatment.

  6. Moreover, the film of soda is water-soluble hence, it can be washed away easily to eliminate the powdery film.
