With Alternative Scoliosis Treatments, Say Goodbye to Complicated Surgeries

Reba Nell McEntire, an American singer, songwriter, actress, and record producer, once said, “To thrive in life you need three bones. A wishbone, a backbone, and a funny bone.” As true as it is for this competitive world today, some people suffer from conditions in their backbone which sometimes pulls them back in their life. It is because of such conditions that even though they start together, they might end up few steps back from the rest. One such condition is - scoliosis.

What is scoliosis?

Scoliosis can be defined as a medical condition in which a person’s spine has a sideways curve. The curve, which is usually “S”- or “C” shaped, might be stable or increase over time. If the condition is mild, it might not cause any such problems in your day-to-day life, but in severe cases, it can intervene even with your regular breathing pattern.

What are the effects of scoliosis?

As it first begins, scoliosis causes no such severe symptoms which might lead it to go undetected for a long time. But some of the main symptoms of scoliosis include uneven shoulder blades, waist and also one hip being at a higher position than the other. If scoliosis goes untreated, it can progress and cause severe problems:
 As the shoulder blades, waist and hip is not aligned, it can lead the body to lean on one side. It happens to compensate for the curve in the spine.
 As the spine becomes abnormally curved, it leads to the joints between the vertebrae becoming damaged which lead to arthritis. This can be very painful and difficult to treat.
 If you have had scoliosis as a child, you are more likely to have chronic back pain as an adult.
 If the condition goes undetected or untreated, it can result in permanent deformity which can make the person appear hunched. Also, it is highly painful.

Scoliosis treatment:

Scoliosis might cause problems in severe cases where the degree of curve ranges up to 45 degrees. Surgery has been an option in the past days, but its outcome and results have been very specific to individual patients. Also, surgery can have complications later like nerve damage, blood loss, infection, etc. Back pain after scoliosis surgery is also a very common side-effect. Keeping this in mind, there has been the advent of many alternative scoliosis treatments. Most recent treatment options include muscle restraining, genetic testing, and nutritional support. This provides measurable, and long-term results.

Compared to the traditional treatment of surgery, the new alternative treatments offer a better after effect. Not only do they stop the curvature progression and relieve back pain, but they also help improve the quality of life in several ways. So before you go for the traditional treatment, explore more about the alternative treatments. Thrive in life with a straight backbone.
