Career Options for B.Com Graduates in India

A B.Com graduate has really good prospects when it comes to career opportunities. The scope is wider than a BBA, B.Sc. or BA pass out. It’s a great option post 10+2 for commerce students who want to gain further knowledge in the areas of commercial purchasing, sales, accounts & finance.

With the right skills & knowledge, a B.Com graduate can land a decent package in government, private and non-profit sector.

Here are the most lucrative options to be pursued after B.Com:

  1. Chartered Accountancy (CA)

It is the most appealing profile possible for a commerce student. The entrance CPT (Common Proficiency Test) is followed by two groups of IPCC and Final each. A CA graduate can land a package of 7 – 12 LPA as a fresher, depending on the quality of the 3-year articleship, the course requires you to complete.

  1. MBA

If you have a flair for business administration, MBA may be just the best option for you. You can pick between an array of specializations such as HR, Marketing, Finance, Operations, etc. You can devote a certain amount of time every day to prepare for CAT right from the start of your final semester. Or you can drop for a year and prepare for it in full swirl.

Other than CAT, there are different examinations such as SNAP (for Symbiosis), XAT (for Xavier’s), NMAT (Narsee Monjee), TISS, etc. Symbiosis, Xavier’s and Narsee Monjee are 3 of the top 10 universities for engineering in India too.

  1. Master of Commerce (M.Com)

M.Com is the most common choice of commerce graduates. It is the two-year program that offers an extensive pool of knowledge in the domains of accounting, finance, economics, business, taxation, etc. Most of the best B.Com colleges in India offer M.Com in an array of specializations too. Some of them even offer integrated 4 year courses for both B.Com and M.Com.
