Home Remedies for Toothache Can Provide Temporary Relief

Tooth pain is something that we all have to face some time or the other. While in most cases you might be able to immediately head over to the dental office for a checkup, there can be instances where it might take you some time to get professional help to treat your tooth pain.

In the absence of medical aid, you can try some of these home remedies that might help you to alleviate the pain until you can reach your emergency dentist, Atlanta. Some of these common home remedies for tooth pain are:

1) Cold Compress:  Ice helps to constrict the flow of blood to the area where it is applied. While it is a temporary solution, it can help if your toothache is due to swollen gums or an injury to your teeth. Simply apply the ice-pack to the affected area a few minutes at a time so that you can lessen the inflammation.

2) Peppermint Tea:  Peppermint is known for its numbing properties. Make peppermint tea by putting peppermint leaves in boiling water and steeping it for 20 minutes. Once the mixture has cooled down, swish some in your mouth around the painful area for a numbing effect on the pain.

3) Clove Oil:  Cloves are known to have anti-bacterial properties and an ability to reduce inflammation. You can apply clove oil on the affected area for pain relief or chew a clove to release its oils and hold the clove against the affected area.

4) Saltwater Rinse: Saltwater can have a healing effect on the tooth pain and also help with reducing swelling in the gums. Mix one teaspoon of salt in a glass of warm water, swish it around your mouth for 20-30 seconds, and spit it out.
